Class 9- English -Moments – Chapter 1
Chapter -1 The Lost Child
Think About It
What are the things the child sees on his way to the fair? Why does he lag behind?
On his way to the fair the child sees toys, balloons of different colours, garland of gulmohur, a swing and a snake-charmer playing a flute. He gets attracted towards all these things. So, he lags behind.
In the fair he wants many things. What are they? Why does he move on without waiting for an answer?
He moves on without an answer because he knows that his parents will not grant him his desires
When does he realise that he has lost his way? How have his anxiety and insecurity been described?
When the children asked his parents for going on the roundabout, then there was no reply from them. He looked at all sides and directions but he didn’t find his parents . Then he realised that he had lost his way.
Why does the lost child lose interest in the things that he had wanted earlier?
The lost child loses interest in the things that he had wanted earlier because he was panic stricken on being separated from his parents. All he wanted was to be united with them. All the things that attracted him in the fair no longer tempted him and now the only thing that mattered was finding his parents.
What do you think happens in the end? Does the child find his parents?
Towards the end, I think that the child reunites with his parents. The man who found the boy crying picked him up and showed him around the fair to cheer him up. As the child only wanted his parents, I feel that the man would try to search for his parents and try his best to unite them. The parents would also soon realise that their son was missing and would definitely search for him too.
