Name all the people who are tried in the king’s court, and give the reasons for their trial.
The owner of the house, i.e., the merchant, the bricklayer, the dancing girl, and the goldsmith, were tried in the king’s court. They all were tried because the thief died when the wall of the merchant’s house collapsed. The merchant tried to build a weak wall.
Who is the real culprit according to the king? Why does he escape punishment?
According to the king, the real culprit is the rich merchant whose wall fell on the thief. He has escaped the punishment because he is slim and the stake at which the punishment is to be given requires a fat person.
What are the Guru’s words of wisdom? When does the disciple remember them?
The guru’s words of wisdom were that it was the kingdom of fools which was unsafe for them. He advised the disciple to leave the city because he would not know what they would do next. The disciple remembers this when he was going to be executed for them.
How does the guru manage to save his disciple’s life?
The Guru arrives on time to save his disciple and creates a drama. He tells the king that it is not an ordinary stake and whoever will go to the stake first, will become the king in the next life. The second to die will become his minister. The king wants to avail himself of the opportunity. So, the Guru and his disciple are released. Thus the Guru manages to save his disciple’s life.
